THE WORLD OF INFORMATION
We live in the world of information. Information quantums are everywhere around us, turning our lives into a constant process of information perception and editing. The ability to regulate the quantity and quality of incoming information as well as the conscious usage of various ways of its analysis and accumulation helps us to acquire life wisdom.
The process of perceiving and editing information is similar to the one of digestion. We need food in order to survive and we are free to choose whatever we want to eat, we consume it and then…we rely on our stomach’s work. Our feeling before dinner depends completely on the ability of our stomach to digest the food we ate during lunch.
The process of information digestion is similar. We need information to survive and we are free to choose the types of information, we consume it and then…we rely on our brain’s ability!
Let’s scrutinize this process in detail.
Postulate one. We need information in order to survive. Not everyone would agree with this right away. We should mention that we need completely different types of information – from the skill of reading and writing to the awareness about latest world political events. Daily, hourly we consume enormous amounts of information quantums: children’s grades at school, traffic jams on the road, vacation possibilities, political situations around the world, discounts in favorite stores…Information is surrounding us everywhere – through radio, television, cell phone, conversations at work and home…We live in the world of information.
Postulate two. We choose the information ourselves. Well, let’s make a correction here. There are types of information, which we have to accept and process: parents’ health, successes and failures of our children, economic situation in the country, etc. However, most of the information we do choose and filter ourselves. We do choose whether to switch on a TV (radio, cell phone) or not. We do choose where to study, where to work and with whom to associate. There are vast possibilities – information is everywhere! We do choose one over another, most of the times unconsciously, guided by the subjective feelings. But still we do choose it ourselves.
Postulate three. We consume information. Of course! We are in need for it! We can realize this phenomenon when we turn on a broadcasting source like TV, radio or computer. Most people would honestly confess that they do it automatically because they need it as a background noise. We consciously dive into the information flow and consume it.
Postulate four. The main organ, responsible for information processing is the brain. It is a widely accepted fact. It is clear that our brain is working hard all day long processing the incoming information. But what do we really know about the way brain works? What do we know about the ways to protect and prolong our brain’s activity?
For example, we take care of our stomachs most of the time – with the help of healthy eating habits, lifestyles, light breakfasts, etc. These are common formulas, which we use consciously and uncompromisingly. Why is it so? The fact is that it´s been a long time since mass media and advertising have been talking about this, nurturing the ground for the future generations, urging for action. Just look back 100 years ago… No comments here.
The time we live in is the time of acceleration and augmentation of information volume. We live in the information world of big speeds. It is a fact. It is similar to the force of gravity: whether you are aware of it or not, whether you like it or not, whether you agree with it or not – the object is not going to float in the air, it is going to fall. It is a fact.
It is also a fact that we started to take care of our main information control center inside us. We are getting used to taking care of our brain. The need of antistress programs, memory trainings, etc. is widely accepted. Humanity slowly but confidently starts to understand the need and usefulness of the procedures that help our brains live a long, active and highly productive lives.
Various world antistress trends have been already developed and are continuing to actively develop. In addition to that, new forms of ECO relaxation/activation trainings of the intellectual apparatus, schools of non-conflict communication for managers and alternative education for children are developing and standing out as well, getting more public attention.
No doubt, step by step, all of us will learn how to take care of our health and functionality of our brains in the same way that we care about our stomachs.
Let’s wish us all good luck!
