THE ART OF OVERCOMING RESISTANCE ON THE WAY TO THE HEIGHTS OF LIFE OR LIFE POWERLIFTING

Powerlifting is a power sport which essence is to overcome the resistance of the heaviest weight for an athlete.

As a competitive disciplines, it includes 3 exercises: back squat, bench pressing and power clean. Altogether, they determine the qualification of an athlete.

Lots of famous bodybuilders either started with powerlifting or did both sports at the same time. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronnie Coleman and Franco Columbu are just some of examples.

During the performance, the indicators of athletes of the same weight category are compared. The score is based on the total maximum weight taken in all three exercises. With the same indicators, the victory is awarded to an athlete with a smaller mass.

The comparison of powerlifting with the art of choosing one's own vital heights and mastership of overcoming life's difficulties on the way to them came unexpectedly. On this example I managed to explain to my interlocutor why it is essential and important to evaluate and count our own forces in the moment when we want something or determine for ourselves the next height. It is core to estimate your own resource before overcoming the resistance that arises on the way to the top.

Indeed, why not? Overcoming life’s obstacles can also be called a lifting of life’s weights. Thereby, we compare it with powerlifting. As we know now, powerlifting began to form at the end of fifties – the beginning of sixties. By mid-sixties, the rules of competition had been determined and the national championships started to take place on a regular basis.

…the keyword here is “rules” !

There are clear limits and boundaries as well as weight categories in which athletes perform. The weight category is also determined in accordance with the established parameters and requirements.

Can every weightlifter lift any bar? Absolutely not. Even a kid can understand this fact. An experienced and trained athlete can lift a heavier bar. To achieve mastery years of training and discipline are needed. Just because if you take too much weight, you can rupture yourself!

How we tend to act when we are confronted with a new height (career, material or ambitious one) and this height implies a way where will be difficulties (lack of time or lack of sleep, loss of motivation or doubts and temptation) that should be overcame. If we talk in terms of powerlifting, the resistance should be overcame.

I met people of three categories. The first one includes people which as soon as they see the height just say that it is not for them. They don´t want, they cannot or they will not be able. And then they turn around and go away.

The second category of people are those who try to lift the bar right now. Just at the moment they see it. Without properly evaluating their own capacity, not even getting sure that their press and muscles are trained enough to be able to lift this life’s weight. And when they start to push up the bar the first sights of life forces´ strain appear: diseases, disorders and other problems that one needs to overcome again and again. The circle encloses.

There is also the third category of people. Having approached new life height, they would say: “I am not ready to lift it right now. I do not have enough training”. They can also say: ”Just a decade earlier I couldn´t lift this bar, but now I am ready to do this”. And they just take their time and lift it without any rush. These are the ones who start by checking their own capacities in relation to the volume of life’s weight on their way towards the top and only then they start to pursue the path.

I think that the people of the third category are those who achieve the best results and overcome the highest summits in their lives. They successfully live longer and happier life.

Nobody was born a world champion. However it is possible to become a champion by setting this high goal, getting disciplined and trained, following the advice from the coach and masters, gaining experience, wisdom and strength.

High tops always beckon! It is important not to strain on your way towards the top if you want to celebrate there!
